The problem
A homeowner found water around the base of a 12-year-old gas water heater in the garage on a Tuesday morning.
What we found
The tank itself had corroded through at the bottom seam. No repair can fix that. The shut-off valve above it was also seized, which meant the water couldn't be stopped at the heater.
The fix
We shut off the water at the main, drained and removed the old tank, then fitted a new 50-gallon heater, a new ball valve and an expansion tank. We tested the gas line for leaks and showed the homeowner how to use the new valve.
